Captain Sim releases Boeing 777-300ER for MSFS 2024

Captain Sim has released its Boeing 777-300ER for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, presenting it as the first in a series of airframe and engine variants tailored for the new simulator. The announcement came accompanied by a new video and a product page detailing the aircraft’s visual features, animations, and included liveries.
This release, however, continues a familiar pattern. While the 777-300ER sports a new label for MSFS 2024, the core of the aircraft still relies heavily on default systems—specifically, the avionics and functionality of the Asobo 747-8. That means users will encounter many of the same limitations found in Captain Sim’s previous 777 releases for MSFS 2020.
Visually, the aircraft should look good. The model depicts the 777-300ER with GE90-115B engines, complete with extended wingtips and the reinforced landing gear typical of the real-world variant. The exterior features an extensive list of animated elements—doors, panels, APU intake, engine covers, and even deployable escape slides.
A full cabin is included, along with a set of 11 airline liveries (Air France, Emirates, Japan Airlines, and others), plus a Captain Sim house paint. The cockpit includes standard interactive elements such as working sunshades, movable pilot windows, and ambient props like drink cups and paper charts. A basic EFB is present on the captain’s side, while the F/O EFB is used to trigger custom animations.
Despite the fresh packaging, the systems depth remains light. Captain Sim refers to “essential system functionality” and confirms that some systems are dependent on the default 747, which must be installed. That phrasing suggests no major overhaul of core avionics or flight management systems.
Whether any enhancements have been made to the systems compared to the prior MSFS 2020 version hasn’t been clearly outlined, and based on past releases, expectations for realism should remain modest.
For many simmers, this release is unlikely to change the narrative around Captain Sim’s airliners in MSFS. The 777-300ER is best viewed as a visually complete model with a functioning flight deck that replicates some of the basics, but without the systems depth or accuracy that more advanced users typically expect.
With more comprehensive 777s on the horizon—most notably PMDG’s upcoming 777 lineup for MSFS 2024—this release will likely appeal more to casual users than those seeking realism or high fidelity.
The Captain Sim 777-300ER for MSFS 2024 is available now for $19.99.
