FlightSim Studio releases the Super 27 expansion for its Boeing 727 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

After months of previews and a “coming soon” tease just a few days ago, FlightSim Studio AG has released the Super27 Expansion Pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Available now for both MSFS 2020 and 2024, the expansion turns the classic Boeing 727 into a retro-modern hybrid that feels both familiar and new.

The Super27 is about taking the trijet we know and giving it a serious upgrade. The expansion swaps out the original JT8D powerplants for JT8D-217C engines, including those unmistakable clamshell thrust reversers. The result is a 727 that climbs faster, handles differently, and has the kind of presence you’d expect from late-career retrofits in the real world.

But the changes aren’t limited to sound and thrust. The cockpit is where the real transformation takes place. The expansion adds:

  • An optional Collins EFIS suite with modern electronic displays.
  • A brand-new APS-85 autopilot with VNAV support.
  • Digital VSI with TCAS, usable even in the base 727.
  • Dual DME receivers, auto spoilers, moving map display, and digital fuel gauges.

FSS gives simmers flexibility here: you can stick with the traditional analog setup if you’re a purist, or opt into the EFIS and more advanced avionics if you prefer something closer to a retrofitted 727 from the late 1980s and 1990s.

Passenger, freighter… and liveries for both

The Super27 works across the 727-200 Passenger and Freighter variants, and FSS has included a sizeable set of liveries to go with it. On the freighter side you’ll find FedExLAS CargoIFL Group, and others, while the passenger side includes EasternSun CountryAnsett Australia, and even a TWA paint. It’s a mix of well-known operators and smaller carriers that leaned on the 727 in its later years.

Not a standalone aircraft

One important note: this is an expansion pack. You’ll need to already own the base 727-200 Passenger or 727-200 Freighter package (or both). Without those, the Super27 won’t work.

The release of the Super27 is more than just another aircraft expansion—it highlights a growing trend in the

The Super27 Expansion Pack is out now for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, priced at around $20 USD.
