It’s official: Commercial Simulation Systems (CSS) has confirmed that their Boeing 737-500 Classic for Microsoft Flight Simulator will be released later this week. The team has now set a release window between May 16th and 18th, 2025.

The announcement came in a brief but exciting message on the developer’s Discord:

“Thank you for your patience and for waiting so long! Today I will keep it short: the CSS 737-500 release window is 16.05. – 18.05.2025. Expect more details over the coming week!”

What to expect from the CSS 737-500

The CSS 737 Classic project aims to deliver an in-depth and realistic experience of the 737 Classic era, focusing first on the 737-500. The aircraft is currently in closed beta testing, with the developers claiming all major systems are complete and undergoing final evaluation.

Among the standout features, CSS lists:

  • An IRS-based navigation system with FMS version 5, offering LNAV, VNAV, and autoland capabilities.
  • A custom Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) for aircraft configuration, performance data, SimBrief import, and Navigraph charts.
  • GSX integration for realistic ground operations.
  • A dynamic failure model influenced by aircraft age and wear.
  • High-fidelity sound design, promising an authentic audio environment.
  • Community-created high-quality liveries from artists such as Atarium Liveries and Comet133.

A controversial pricing scheme

One notable aspect of the CSS 737 Classic is its pricing model. Besides a rather expensive one-time purchase option, CSS is introducing a subscription-based structure:

  • $5 for 30 days of access.
  • $50 for an annual subscription.
  • $120 for a lifetime license.

Regardless of which tier users choose, future variants like the 737-300, 737-400, and freighter versions will be included at no extra cost. CSS says this model allows for continuous updates and improvements without fragmenting the product.

While the exact release date will land somewhere between Thursday and Saturday, CSS has promised to share more information in the coming days. This could include final preview content, tutorials, or an overview of what to expect at launch. Stay tuned as we’ll be covering every update right here on MSFS Addons!
