Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Update 1.2.8.0 adds further stability and performance improvements

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has received a new update, version 1.2.8.0, which once again tries to introduce several key improvements to stability, performance, and functionality. It’s not a big overarching update like the one that came earlier this month, focusing more on fixing crashes and stabilizing the platform.

MSFS 2024 has been a remarkable leap in flight simulation, but like any ambitious platform, it hasn’t been without its turbulence. Since its release, users have reported countless issues ranging from random crashes to stutters at major airports, and major bugs impacting Career Mode. But Microsoft is committed to supporting the platform for years to come, so these updates are critical in ironing out all the wrinkles to ensure a smoother experience for the growing virtual pilot community.

V1.2.8.0 is the fourth update since the release of MSFS 2024 and introduces the following changes:

STABILITY & PERFORMANCE

  • Fixed various crashes across the title
  • Fixed performance issues at various airports

AIRCRAFT

  • Fixed animations and lights on various aircraft

DEVMODE

  • Fixed mission which couldn’t be started using the Career Tool
  • Fixed DevMode display which could disappear (even if it was enabled) after a mission using the Career Tool or by moving to some menu

SDK

  • Fixed NanoVG API issues users encountered on 2020 aircraft avionics

It’s not much, admittedly, considering how many topics need to be addressed, but there are a couple of important points, especially the first two. Many simmers continue to experience CTDs, so addressing that issue could make the difference between being able to use the simulator or being left out. Furthermore, many airports have been reported as heavy on performance, so resolving some of those issues could allow more simmers to enjoy their favorite locations without being jarred by a stuttering airport after a smooth flight.

As always, the MSFS team also reiterates the potential impact of third-party mods in the Community Folder on the simulator’s performance and stability. Players experiencing crashes or prolonged loading times are advised to move these packages to another folder before restarting the title.
