iniBuilds releases a new classic airplane for MSFS: the Bf108 Taifun

iniBuilds is proving to be one of the most prolific development studios for Microsoft Flight Simulator, presenting us with a continuous stream of new airports and add-ons to enjoy in the simulator. A few days before the launch of the Antonov An-225, iniBuilds released today a brand new aircraft in its Classic series, which debuted with the P-40F a few months ago: the Messerschmitt Bf108 Taifun!

This time, the team is traveling to Germany to recreate this single-engined sports and touring airplane, which was introduced in 1935. iniBuilds says that the team greatly enjoyed their time developing the P-40F and decided to continue creating similar historic aircraft for MSFS. iniBuilds seems very proud of their achievement with the Taifun, which they say has been built with “all the bells and whistles”.

Like the P-40F, the Bf108 uses the CFD system available in MSFS, which should enable the aircraft to behave realistically in the virtual skies. Furthermore, iniBuilds promises an “authentically modeled engine” that delivers true-to-life performance. This is accompanied by other simulation features such as fuel system modeling, enhanced STOL performance provided by the Taifun’s unique leading edge slats, and more.

This package also includes a fully functional EFB that enables a few maintenance functions, a map, weather information, rain cover options, and additional settings. While indeed a helpful tool, some simmers may find the use of an electronic device in this kind of airplane a bit unrealistic, so iniBuilds makes its use totally optional.

First impressions

We’ve had the chance to try out the Tifun in a pre-release stage and came out quite impressed with the airplane. For the price, it’s a decidedly fun and historic airplane that should please those who enjoy vintage airplanes or were waiting for this particular aircraft to grace the skies in MSFS.

iniBuilds’ attention to detail is impeccable, with many aspects of the aircraft accurately recreated to provide a realistic and authentic flying experience. The controls are smooth and responsive, even if the Taifun is not exactly an agile aircraft. You may not be able to throw it around too much, but the BF 108 handles with precision and grace, making each flight a unique and quite interesting experience.

One of the best things about flying the BF 108 in Microsoft Flight Simulator is the stunning visuals. The graphics are very realistic, and the interior is particularly charming and cozy place to be. Visibility is great, with a panoramic glass roof whose curtains can be opened and closed. It’s like a tiny old house with wings… and great views!

Our quick take? With such an impressive line-up of airplanes from this era for MSFS, some of which much more known than the Bf 108, it’s hard for this aircraft to stand out. Still, it’s very well made and ticks all the essential boxes with a few extra features in the EFB like maintenance requirements, so it’s an easy recommendation from us!
