Orbx releases YBMK Mackay Airport for MSFS

Orbx continues to expand its already vast offering of Australian airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The latest addition to this collection comes from new developer Rob Byrne, who brings us an impressively detailed rendition of Mackay Airport, in Queensland, Australia.

YBMK Mackay Airport is a relatively major Australian airport, with an average of around 1 million passengers served per year over the last decade. This site has been operational for aviation purposes since well before WWII – the first airport license was issued in 1931. Since then, Mackay Airport has played an increasingly important role for the local and regional communities, especially for its quick connection to Brisbane, the state’s capital and largest city.

Mackay Airport has a 1900m (6500ft) runway that is capable of handling airplanes up to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. Several Australian airlines operate here, such as Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia. Interestingly, GA flights are also quite common, sharing the space with the bigger jets, an exciting experience for single-engine GA pilots.

YBMK Mackay Airport appears to be a great debut project from indie developer Rob Byrne. The official product images show an impressive scenery, with lots of details in the modeling of the airport’s buildings and textures. This scenery also features enhanced aerial imagery for the airport itself and the immediate surroundings. Looks to be a great new home base to explore the region and set out on some tours along the coast, maybe for a lazy Sunday in the gorgeous Whitehaven Beach, in the Whitsundays!
